Classes need a minimum 10 students to proceed
COMPLETION OF INTERMEDIATE CLASS IS REQUIRED!
Class is from Sunday April 26th - Sunday June 21st, Skipping May 24th for memorial day weekend
Class Description and goals:
This Advanced class is designed to hyper-focus on the narrative skills learned in the Intermediate class. We will improvise TWO Musicals in every class. By the end of class, every student would have participated in and/or watched a total of EIGHTEEN improvised musicals
The goals of this Advanced class are as follows:
Have focused narrative reps with side coaching and support
Polish and expand your character work
Play with different narrative genres
Understand how to play the protagonist, villain, and side characters to the best of your ability
Engrain story structure within yourself so you know which moves to make next
Master your stage presence and stage awareness
Create mind-blowing stories with a connected ensemble
NOTE:
This class will have weekly homework! It takes between 2-3 hours each week to complete outside of classroom time. The homework is optional, but HIGHLY encouraged.
Eliza Skinner, Musical Improv teacher at UCB who taught Jess McKenna and Zach Reino (from Off-book: The Improvised Musical Podcast), has said that the most useful thing you can do in order to get better at musical improv is to WATCH MORE MUSICALS! Class and reps are important, but we also need to be learning outside of class. Watching musicals will help a TON in order to get a better grasp on a lot of the concepts that will be brought up in class
